Midwest City has been the backdrop to two separate shootings over the Memorial Day weekend, with incidents occurring just blocks apart, igniting concern among residents. According to KOCO, yesterday afternoon, an altercation escalated into gun violence near NE 10th Street and Air Depot Boulevard, leaving one individual with an arm injury after being shot. Midwest City Police informed that following a confrontation, one of the involved persons returned with a firearm and committed the shooting.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, and the suspect is still on the run, the problem here being that the authorities still have not published any description of the assailant which contributes to the level of unease within the neighborhood. Furthermore, News 9 reported that the victim managed to drive from the scene of the shooting, but was stopped by officers at NE 10th and N. Midwest Blvd., where EMSA was subsequently called to assist.
This incident followed a fatal shooting last Friday where, as KFOR details, Midwest City Police found a man having been shot multiple times in the chest outside a graduation pool party in the same vicinity. The victim of that shooting was declared deceased, adding to a grim tally that shadows what should have been a weekend of commemoration and community gathering.
