Minneapolis residents can expect a slight chance of showers between noon and 2pm today with a high near 50 degrees, as reported by the National Weather Service. The skies will mostly be cloudy with a north wind around 10 mph, and the likelihood of precipitation is pegged at 20%. Later tonight, the clouds are set to give way to clearer skies, with temperatures dipping to around 39 degrees. The shift towards clearer skies will come with a light north wind turning to northeast in the evening, as per the forecast.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday promises sunny skies and a high of near 65 degrees. The calm that the morning brings is to gradually become a light northwest breeze in the afternoon. Saturday night's conditions will continue to be clear with a low around 46 degrees. This marks a brief turn from the cooler nights experienced recently, making for a pleasant, clear evening.
Sunday's forecast also indicates an abundantly sunny day, with temperatures expected to climb to near 75 degrees. While the day will start with calm winds, a light easterly breeze is forecast to pick up by the afternoon. This trend is expected to carry into Monday, with sunny conditions and a high near 73 degrees, and similarly mild, partly cloudy conditions carrying over into Tuesday, maintaining highs in the mid-70s as reported by the National Weather Service.
Despite these mild conditions, earlier this morning, the National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook that anticipates overnight lows near or slightly below freezing, which could lead to patchy frost in central and eastern Minnesota and areas of frost in Wisconsin. "Tonight could lead to patchy frost in central and eastern Minnesota, and areas of frost in western Wisconsin," cautions the outlook. However, the rest of the week should be free from severe weather, with no hazardous conditions expected from Saturday through Thursday, affirming the return to spring warmth according to the outlook.
For the detailed forecast for the rest of the week, temperatures will moderately stay consistent with highs in the low to mid-70s and overnight lows hovering around the low 50s. Minneapolis residents can largely look forward to a week of mostly sunny days, which should provide ample opportunity to enjoy the onset of true spring conditions after the potential for a frosty night.
