A man was arrested in Miramar yesterday after he fled a traffic stop and initiated a police pursuit near Arcadia Drive and Miramar Parkway. Local 10 reports that the suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, ran from his vehicle but was swiftly caught by law enforcement.
The incident led police to discover a 3-year-old child in the suspect’s car, who is now under the care of the Department of Children and Families. CBS News Miami confirmed that the minor is safe and that authorities have not indicated what relationship, if any, the child has to the apprehended individual.
Officials indicated that the man is being held on multiple charges, including traffic-related offenses and two outstanding felony warrants. The seriousness of these charges becomes evident considering Florida's legal consequences for fleeing a traffic stop—ranging from third-degree felony to potentially first-degree if the chase results in serious bodily injury or death.
Miramar Police have emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the general public following the arrest. Both news outlets have not released additional details on the specifics of the felony warrants the suspect was held on, nor have they reported on the potential charges related to the endangerment of the child found in the car.
