Embattled Molalla City Councilor Rae Lynn Botsford faces a 24-count indictment, including multiple felony charges, for alleged theft from a middle school parent group. The Clackamas County District Attorney's Office has confirmed that the indictment, handed down by a grand jury on May 2, includes accusations of Aggravated Identity Theft, Theft in the First Degree, and one misdemeanor count of Falsifying business records, as reported by the Clackamas County official website.
According to court documents, Botsford, who served as the treasurer for the Molalla River Middle School Parent Action Committee, allegedly made over 180 unauthorized transactions using the organization’s debit card. This misuse of funds stretched over two years, from March 2022 until April 2024, with cash withdrawals and charges in various locations, including restaurants and out-of-town sites. Botsford stepped down from her role in the summer of 2024, and a review of financial records after resignation shed light on the questionable transactions.
Botsford, 49, was arraigned yesterday and has held her position on the Molalla City Council since January 2023. The former treasurer is scheduled for the next court appearance on July 1, 2025, at 10 a.m. Deputy District Attorney John Millar will be leading the prosecution.
