On Monday night, a mother and her child escaped a fire in their home in Monroe, Michigan, through a bedroom window as heavy smoke filled the air. The fire occurred in the 1400 block of Michigan Avenue, with the call to Monroe County Central Dispatch made around 9 p.m. The mother smelled the smoke and quickly fled with her child, as reported by CBS News Detroit.
Before the Monroe Police and Fire Department arrived, the family was safely outside. Thick grey smoke was coming from the front door and the top of the house. The Monroe Public Safety Department said the fire was brought under control, but the damage made the house uninhabitable, displacing the family.
According to the Monroe Public Safety Department on their Facebook page, a fire destroyed a family's home, with the Frenchtown Fire and Monroe Community Ambulance providing assistance at the scene. The Monroe Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire and is asking anyone with information to contact Fire Marshal Hudson at 734-243-7519. The investigation is ongoing.
