A 24-year-old man was detained by Nashville authorities in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last Tuesday night. Specialized Investigations Division TITANS detectives arrested Jordan A. Smith, who is now facing multiple felony charges, including criminal homicide, for the death of Dana Corley, 26, as reported by the Nashville government’s news release.
The incident took place near the intersection of 16th Avenue South and Wedgewood Avenue, where Corley was discovered last Wednesday, seated in his Nissan Altima with multiple gunshot wounds. The vehicle crashed into a tree. Prior to the tragic event, Smith had spotted Corley inside the Circle K market on Belmont Boulevard. His presence there was because his girlfriend works at the market, said Smith, who had acknowledged a troubled history with Corley. After an exchange, Smith, allegedly at gunpoint, forced Corley out of the market.
According to the Nashville government’s news release, after Corley fled the scene, Smith followed and then claimed he opened fire on Corley’s vehicle because he was "in fear" when they were driving adjacent to each other near the 16th Avenue South/Wedgewood intersection. Subsequently, Corley was robbed of his cell phone and left to succumb to his injuries after his vehicle collided with a tree.
Law enforcement officials captured Smith at an apartment complex on Buena Vista Pike, where detectives charged him with aggravated kidnapping for forcing Corley out of the market, aggravated robbery, and evidence tampering, in addition to the murder count. The suspect is currently held without bond, as the investigation by TITANS detectives progresses.
