An employee of the Nashville Rescue Mission, Cedrick Wilson, is currently recuperating after being shot multiple times at the end of his shift, as confirmed by WKRN. The incident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, and the alleged shooter, identified as 29-year-old Tadarius Milan Hunt, was later engaged in a confrontation with the Metro Police.
Amidst a bustling neighborhood, the aftermath of violence starkly contrasted with the routine of daily life. Described as a "wonderful employee" by the Nashville Rescue Mission's CEO and President Glenn Cranfield, Wilson's condition in the hospital has been reported as positive. Meanwhile, Hunt, who was accused of firing at Wilson, was shot and killed by police officers during a shootout on Monday on Division Street, a fact reported by WTVF, which released dash-cam footage of the encounter.
The shootout not only resulted in Hunt's death but also in injuries to a Metro officer, Clayton Lewis. Hannah Schmidt, a local resident, witnessed the chaos from her apartment and shared her alarm at the proximity of the violence to her home, "It's always unsettling to feel like you're not safe in your own home," she explained to WTVF.
Following these events, the Nashville Rescue Mission issued a statement extending their gratitude towards the Metro Police for their quick response and concern for the employee and officer's welfare. " We are especially thankful for Metro Police’s swift response and continued commitment to the safety of our community. We are also lifting up in prayer the officer who was injured during the encounter and wish them a full and speedy recovery," the Mission said, as obtained by WSMV. The statement also requested prayers for Wilson, his family, and the injured officer.
