
The Nashville Department of Emergency Communications (DEC) recognized the outstanding efforts of its personnel at the 2024 awards ceremony. Four employees were honored for their exceptional service to the community.
According to the Nashville Government website, Candace Rufus, a three-year veteran of the DEC, was named Emergency Telecommunicator of the Year. Rufus, also a Communications Training Officer, has been commended for her quick decision-making, compassion, and professionalism. She has received 12 life-saving commendations in her role as a 911 call taker and dispatcher.
Sonia Strain was awarded Communications Training Officer of the Year for her exemplary attendance, mentorship of new recruits, and contributions as an Interim Communications Supervisor.
Kimberly Manier, with 20 years of service, was recognized as Supervisor of the Year for her leadership in managing high call volumes and her role with the Nashville Telecommunicator Emergency Response Team (NTERT).
Leah Quarles, a 24-year veteran, was named Administrative Team Member of the Year for her leadership and support in managing the department’s operations.
These awards highlight the dedication and hard work of DEC personnel in ensuring effective emergency communications.
