Early yesterday morning, the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a significant blaze at a single-family home in the Marigny neighborhood, dispatch records and officials have stated. The NOFD was called to the scene on Urquhart Street shortly after midnight, where firefighters encountered active flames upon arrival.
According to a press release by the City of New Orleans, the first responders reached the location at 12:35 a.m., and, a second alarm was raised at 12:39 a.m., suggesting the need for additional firefighting resources. The NOFD's quick response enabled crews to control the situation promptly.
The fire was declared under control by 12:53 a.m., which is notable given the potential risk for fire spread in the tightly packed residences typical of the neighborhood. Residents in nearby homes watched anxiously as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, concerned for the safety of their own dwellings and the well-being of their neighbors caught in the blaze.
While the source of the fire is still unknown, officials have stated that it is currently under investigation.
