The City of New Orleans is embarking on a green initiative and nonprofit organizations throughout Orleans Parish have an opportunity to play a pivotal role. Through the 2025 Parks and Parkways Tree Planting Grant, a total of $225,000 is up for grabs, allocated for the purpose of planting trees on public property across the city. This grant initiative is a call to action for nonprofits, providing them the financial means to actively participate in a project deemed crucial for the enhancement of the urban landscape.
With a vision to dramatically increase the urban forest, the city aims to introduce 40,000 new trees by the year 2030. Grants will average around $20,000 but could vary depending on the specifics of each project. However, they are looking to consider organizations ready to properly install trees that meet the guidelines set forth by the Department of Parks & Parkways.
Applications are open exclusively to tax-exempt nonprofit organizations situated within Orleans Parish, according to the official announcement by the City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways. The application deadline is May 30, 2025. For additional information, please contact the Greater New Orleans Foundation at [email protected].
