The city remains on high alert as the manhunt for five escaped inmates from New Orleans' Orleans Parish jail presses on into its tenth day. According to WWLTV, the five inmates who remain at large are Lenton Vanburen, Antoine Massey, Derrick Groves, Leo Tate, and Jermaine Donald, their freedom stretching over a week since the initial jailbreak on May 16.
As part of the ongoing investigation, nine individuals have been ensnared by the law's extended reach, among them four who appeared in court via Zoom yesterday reported Nola.com, with bond amounts set as high as $2.5 million; among these are Lenton J. Vanburen Sr., Angel McKey, Emmitt Weber, and Trevon B. Williams, the latter not an escapee but accused of assisting the inmates during their flight, authorities have been relentless in their pursuit detaining accomplices, identifying networks that supported the fugitives' escape, the details of which remain under wraps as the situation unfolds.
New Orleans Police have also arrested a woman named Casey Smith, 30, who is accused of helping two of the inmates after they fled the jail, detailed WWLTV. As part of this contiguous effort, Emmitt Weber was captured after officers conducted interviews at a residence in New Orleans East, where he was taken into custody and charged with accessory after the fact.
