The New Orleans Police Department reported the arrest of a homicide suspect yesterday. Jernell Brown, an 18-year-old black male, has been detained in connection with a fatal shooting on May 13 at the corner of 2nd and Clara Streets.
Officers responded to a distressing scene at approximately 4:21 p.m. on the day of the incident, finding an adult male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The man, later identified as 37-year-old Pressley Reed, was pronounced dead at the scene, as noted in an announcement by the NOPD. The ensuing investigation pieced together that an altercation broke out between Reed, and the accused, which resulted in Reed being shot.
Following questioning by NOPD Homicide Division detectives, and the subsequent identification of Reed through the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office, an arrest warrant was issued. Brown was taken into custody at a residence within the Fifth District. NOPD has charged Brown with second-degree murder in relation to the altercation on May 13.
The NOPD's swift action has resulted in Brown's arrest less than two weeks after the homicide occurred. While Brown remains in custody, the NOPD encourages anyone with further information about the incident to come forward, stating, "Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300."
