The New Orleans Police Department released body cam and surveillance footage showing the events leading to the fatal shooting of Gregory Williams outside a Tchoupitoulas Walmart on May 2. According to FOX 8, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man in a vehicle. Officer Raychel Willey administered Narcan, and Williams regained consciousness but then became erratic.

“When Williams did become erratic, he immediately put the car into reverse, and she was caught in that opened door as he started to backup very quickly and rapidly,” NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said, according to WWLTV. Willey's uniform became caught on the vehicle, and she fired twice, hitting Williams once in the chest.

Williams then struck a bystander and hit two vehicles before being taken to the hospital, where he later died. NOLA.com reported that the bystander, a woman loading groceries into her car, suffered serious leg injuries.

Willey was dragged during the incident while trying to stop Williams and gave medical aid afterward. She was taken to University Medical Center and has not yet been medically cleared to return to duty.
