The skies between San Diego and Amsterdam are now directly connected, thanks to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines' inaugural flight, which was celebrated at the San Diego International Airport (SAN). This new, nonstop route by KLM, now the seventh foreign-flag international carrier at SAN, offers travelers in Southern California a direct ticket to the Dutch capital's charm. According to an announcement from the San Diego International Airport, the route will operate three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

KLM started the new service with festivities in SAN's terminal, complete with the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony. "We are thrilled to welcome KLM to SAN and celebrate the inaugural flight to Amsterdam," SAN's President and CEO, Kimberly Becker, shared, expressing excitement over the prospect of connecting to over 160 KLM destinations across their network. As per the San Diego International Airport, Becker noted that the new direct flights will also "serve the strong demand from both business and leisure passengers for flights to Europe, which is up more than 30 percent compared to last year."

Furthermore, Mayor Todd Gloria highlighted the economic advantages this route was anticipated to bring, commenting on the longstanding efforts that made this connection a reality following a 2022 trade mission to the Netherlands. "The new direct flight from San Diego to Amsterdam is a major win for our regional economy, supporting jobs, tourism and international business and investment opportunities," Gloria told the San Diego International Airport.
