In a routine bust turned sizable drug seizure, the North Adams Police Department, alongside the Berkshire County Drug Task Force and Pittsfield Police Department, apprehended two men on multiple drug and firearm-related charges. The North Adams Police Department shared details of the operation in a social media post yesterday, providing insight into a carefully coordinated crackdown that took place on Tuesday.
Detectives monitoring 115 Bradley Street in North Adams for suspected narcotics distribution observed a vehicle stop that resulted in the arrest of Duane Carr for driving without a license. Shortly after, Officer Cogswell, assisted by his K9 partner Rocky, discovered contraband, triggering the broader operation. Passenger Jossue Burgos attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and found to be in possession of heroin and cocaine.
The investigation did not conclude with the roadside arrest. It extended to the Berkshire Inn in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where detectives, acting on further information, secured two hotel rooms connected to Carr and Burgos. Later that evening, search warrants obtained led to the seizure of an array of narcotics, distribution paraphernalia, and unsecured weaponry.
Duane Carr and Jossue Burgos, both from Springfield, Massachusetts, are facing serious charges related to drug trafficking and firearms. Carr is accused of multiple offenses, including operating a vehicle without a license, trafficking cocaine, and possessing firearms without the proper permits. He is also charged with improperly storing a firearm under a chair cushion. Burgos faces similar charges, including trafficking, intent to distribute, and possession of loaded firearms without a license, with one of the firearms found with ammunition tucked in a plastic bag on a bed.
The collaboration of various law enforcement agencies has led to the disruption of a potentially large-scale drug operation. The upcoming legal proceedings will determine the outcome for the accused, as they face the justice system, which is stringent when it comes to drug trafficking and the illegal possession of firearms.
