In a gesture to commemorate public service, Governor Josh Stein declared this week, from Sunday to Saturday, as State Employee Recognition Week, with a special nod to Wednesday, designated as State Employee Appreciation Day. As reported by the Governor's office, this announcement highlights the dedication of state employees in North Carolina, recognizing their role in shaping the state into a desirable place to live and work.
"One of the many reasons North Carolina is a great place to live is the state employees who dedicate their lives to service to our people," Governor Stein told his office's publication, expressing his gratitude for their contributions to safety and strength of the state. In a similar vein of gratitude, North Carolina Office of State Human Resources Director Staci Meyer added, "This loyal and skilled workforce helps make our great state one of the best places to live in the nation."
The state's workforce, encompassing more than 77,000 individuals, spans across state agencies, universities, and community colleges, all engaged in a collective effort to ensure North Carolina's operational efficiency. These employees are at the frontlines, enhancing the quality of life for residents, a service Governor Stein's proclamation aims to honor.
A recent effort by Governor Stein, intended to bolster the ranks of these dedicated workers, involved the launch of a website in March aimed at recruiting talent to the state workforce. Described as "Join NC," the initiative, highlighted by the Governor's office, seeks to attract those affected by Hurricane Helene or federal job cuts, and offers resources specifically tailored for servicemembers, their spouses, and veterans looking to transition into civilian roles in North Carolina's government sectors.
State Employee Recognition Week serves as a reminder of the contribution state employees make to the tapestry of daily life in North Carolina, a ceremonial pause to reflect and appreciate those who work silently behind the scenes, making the state not just operational, but a place of thriving communities and public service excellence.
