The Northwest Early College High School (NWECHS) Class of 2025 achieved a monumental milestone at their recent graduation, noted for their robust scholarship awards and ambitious post-secondary destinations, according to Canutillo ISD. The Class, which celebrated its ceremony at the Abraham Chavez Theatre on May 19, leaves behind an impressive legacy, earning a collective $19.5 million in scholarships and preparing for attendance at some of the nation's most esteemed institutions, including Yale University, Princeton University, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Among the noteworthy achievers Aladeotan Falola, Melina Holguin, and Elizabeth Marshall stand out for earning high-value scholarships such as the QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship and full-ride Terry Foundation Scholarship, with their accomplishments highlighting NWECHS's academic prowess and dedication, as pronounced by their principal Frank Clark who in an interview extolled, “This is a class defined not just by what they’ve achieved, but by how they achieved it, with humility, compassion and relentless determination,” as per Canutillo ISD. These success stories were complemented by over 6,000 community service hours logged by seniors, illustrating the school's commitment to service and civic engagement.
Remarks from valedictorian Sebastian Esparza, heading to the University of Pennsylvania, centered on his academic journey and aspirations to serve the immigrant community either as an attorney or through non-profit work; he praised the experiences at NWECHS as fundamental in shaping his educational trajectory. Salutatorian Fatima Garcia Meraz, who eyes a future in public policy and economics at Princeton, credits the rigorous curriculum and supportive network at NWECHS for her readiness to tackle upcoming challenges.
