A 29-year-old Oakwood man, identified as Douglas Arnell Ward Jr., has been apprehended by authorities after attempting to carry out an armed robbery at a Texaco gas station located on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville. According to a FOX 5 Atlanta report, the incident occurred during the early hours of May 15.
"Ward is accused of entering the store, producing a handgun and demanding money from the clerk," as FOX 5 Atlanta detailed. Despite the immediate threat, the fortified clerk promptly alerted law enforcement, stymieing the accused's plans. Ward consequently, fled on foot and remained at large until law enforcement, with the aid of surveillance footage, tracked him down on Industrial Boulevard.
The quick response by the store clerk, who was shielded by bullet-resistant barriers, was pivotal in preventing the robbery. Following the failed attempt, "Ward left on foot prior to officers' arrival," according to a statement made by the Gainesville Police Department to accessWDUN. The police used the store's surveillance system to identify the suspect, leading to his arrest later that day.
Presently, Ward finds himself held at the Hall County Jail without bond. He faces a slew of charges including armed robbery, theft, and aggravated assault among others. The details of these charges, as released by the Gainesville Police Department elucidate the gravity of the crimes Ward is accused of committing.
