An NYPD officer was violently assaulted and robbed in the Bronx, as reported by ABC7 New York. The incident occurred shortly after the off-duty officer had finished his shift at around 4 a.m. yesterday. He was accosted by two men, who struck him in the head and face before robbing him of his gun, wallet, and cell phone near the 1400 block of Saint Peters Ave. in Parkchester.
According to the officer, who was taken to the hospital in stable condition, this attack has left the community and his fellow officers deeply troubled. In a similarly disturbing account provided by the New York Post, it was stated that the assailants were two masked individuals dressed entirely in black. The two approached the officer as he was to get into his personal car and managed to overpower and brutally beat him. The officer suffered a fractured eye socket after being kicked in the head while he lay on the ground, and was robbed of various items including his wallet, ID cards, and both personal and NYPD-issued phones.
The New York Post further reported that the officer, while on the phone with another officer at the moment of the attack, pleaded with the attackers, saying, “Don’t shoot me! I’m a cop!” before the assailants fled the scene. The crime is now under investigation as possibly being part of a larger Bronx robbery pattern.
Despite the officer's attempt to de-escalate the situation by identifying himself as law enforcement, the robbers proceeded to ruthlessly assault and rob him. The NYPD is actively searching for the suspects, and no arrests have yet been made.
