Law enforcement officials in Kingman, Arizona, have been involved in a fatal shooting following a domestic disturbance call.
The Lake Havasu City Police Department addressed the officer-involved incident that took place on May 9, as per an announcement by the department's Criminal Investigations Unit. At around 1:57 p.m., deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) responded to the 4000 block of North Ty Street upon receiving a report of a domestic violence situation involving two roommates. One of the individuals was said to have brandished a firearm and threatened to douse the home with gasoline, according to the Lake Havasu County press release.
Upon arrival, the subject barricaded himself within a bedroom, claiming to be armed, prompting the deputies to establish a perimeter and call in the MCSO and Bullhead City Police Department (BHCPD) SWAT teams. Negotiations stretched over a tense few hours after which, the man emerged from the residence and pointed his firearm at the officers. Three MCSO deputies and one BHCPD officer responded by firing their rifles, subsequently injuring the suspect.
The individual, 56-year-old Jack Lagerwey, was immediately transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were harmed during the confrontation. Emphasizing the protocol in such situations, an external agency has taken charge of the investigation into the shooting. The names of the officers involved are being withheld at this investigation stage, "in accordance with standard protocol," the Lake Havasu County press release stated.
