A fatal crash on Highway 26 in Tillamook County on Saturday evening resulted in one death and several serious injuries.

According to the Oregon State Police (OSP), at approximately 6:07 p.m., a Toyota RAV4 driven by 64-year-old Fred Camino of Seattle, Washington, crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a Nissan Sentra. The Sentra was driven by 62-year-old Bassam Jabra Moussan of Austin, Texas.

Both drivers and passengers from the two vehicles sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. Camino and his passenger, 60-year-old Ann Martinez of Seattle, were among those injured. Bassam Moussan and his passengers — Matthew James Moussan, 34, of Vancouver, Washington; and Whitne Daniel Moussan, 30, of Davis, California — were also seriously injured. Michelle Marie Moussan, 59, of Vancouver, Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was closed for approximately five hours while emergency crews responded. Agencies involved included Banks Fire, Elsie Fire, Hillsboro Fire, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
