A fatal collision in Prince George's County claimed the life of a man and left another injured early yesterday morning. According to WUSA9, the incident occurred around 1:25 a.m. in the 8600 block of Riggs Road. The passenger, a man who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD) reported that the driver was traveling northbound when, for reasons still unclear, he crossed over into the southbound lanes and collided with an unoccupied, parked vehicle. The driver initially survived the crash and was taken to the hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries. PGPD stated that they are working to determine why the driver crossed over and are waiting to release his name until his family can be notified, as WJLA reported.
Following the investigation, which closed down Riggs Road for several hours, the road has been reopened to the public.
