The Department of Justice has announced a major victory against child sex abuse with the conclusion of Operation Restore Justice. In an unprecedented five-day effort led by the FBI, 205 offenders have been arrested for crimes related to child sexual exploitation, including trafficking and the creation and distribution of abusive materials. The collaborative nationwide crackdown involved all 55 FBI field offices, the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section of the Department's Criminal Division, as well as numerous United States Attorney’s Offices.

"The Department of Justice will never stop fighting to protect victims — especially child victims — and we will not rest until we hunt down, arrest, and prosecute every child predator who preys on the most vulnerable among us," said Attorney General Pamela Bondi, as stated by the U.S. Department of Justice. Operation Restore Justice not only targets the apprehension of perpetrators, but it also results in the rescue of 115 children who had been subjected to unimaginable harm.

FBI Director Kash Patel reinforced this commitment, telling the U.S. Department of Justice, “Every child deserves to grow up free from fear and exploitation, and the FBI will continue to be relentless in our pursuit of those who exploit the most vulnerable among us." Examples of these relentless efforts are evident in the cases that came out of the operation, such as Gustavo Uroza-Rodriguez and Melissa Goodrich, who were indicted on serious charges, including attempted coercion and enticement, distribution of child pornography, and trafficking of a minor, respectively.

The initiative has also underscored that threats are not confined to any one region. "When it comes to child sex abuse, Utah is no exception to the rest of the country and there is no shortage of work for our prosecutors or law enforcement partners," said Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah, as per U.S. Department of Justice. Offenders were apprehended in a variety of locales nationwide, including a state trooper in Minneapolis and a former Metropolitan Police Department Police Officer in Washington, D.C., both of whom were arrested for crimes against minors.

The Justice Department, marking a push to battle child sexual exploitation, aligns with Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006, to not only prosecute but also prevent abuse and help victims. The public is encouraged to remain alert and report any suspected exploitation of children by contacting the FBI's tipline or visiting the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's website for more information. These channels serve as essential tools in extending the reach of law enforcement to protect children from harm in every possible way.
