Oxford, Mississippi, was the scene of a bizarre crime last week when a man reportedly tried to set multiple cars on fire. As reported by Action News 5, local law enforcement responded to Eastover Drive last Thursday receiving a report about a male attempting to light vehicles ablaze. Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles had been doused with lighter fluid, and one had already sustained burn damage.
The suspect, Martel McEwen, 34, of Oxford was swiftly detained by police. He now faces charges of 3rd and 4th-degree Arson for his actions. It is yet to be clearly understood what motivated McEwen to allegedly commit these acts. In the aftermath of the incident, WREG News reported that he was taken before a Municipal Court judge for his initial bond hearing, although details of the hearing remain undisclosed.
Darkhorse Press Now has stated that the Oxford Police Department has not reported any injuries resulting from the aborted arson attempts, thus averting what could have escalated into a dangerous situation.
