The incident, which unfolded in the Sevier County area on Sunday evening, was peacefully resolved following the successful intervention by the SWAT teams and detectives involved.
According to a social media post from the Sevier County Sheriff's Office, the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Jose Gallegos Galean-Maria, was believed to be armed inside a residence with a four-year-old child when officers arrived. Deputies Mayea and Toler received special recognition from Sheriff Michael Hodges for their roles, alongside a note of gratitude extended to neighboring police departments and the ambulance service for their support. Sheriff Hodges expressed his pride in working with such committed individuals, emphasizing their deep care for the community.
The response teams dispatched to the scene included SWAT units from Sevier County Sheriff's Office, Pigeon Forge, and the Sevierville Police Department, as well as the Sevier County Ambulance Service. In a single act of team efficiency, a tactical drone was used to assess the situation, subsequently leading to Galean-Maria's surrender without further incident and the safe rescue of the child. Charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault and Theft (Firearm), Galean-Maria is now awaiting a hearing in General Sessions Court, held at the Sevier County Jail.
