Traffic in Downtown Peoria is bracing for a bit of a shake-up as the city undertakes a significant road construction project on 91st Avenue. According to the City of Peoria's official website, the stretch between Cactus Road and Grand Avenue will see closures starting from May 27 through June 6 due to road crews working on reconstruction efforts.
The closure, all-encompassing between Grand Avenue and Loop 101, is geared towards updating the street and the nearby infrastructure. In a move that might add to the traveler's headache, the BSNF Railroad is also set to replace railroad tracks across 91st Avenue, just north of Grand Avenue, as per the City of Peoria's news release.
For those concerned about access to local businesses, the city has planned some concessions. 91st Avenue will remain accessible south of Cactus Road, while Cactus Road will be open for local traffic and business access only west of 89th Avenue. A police officer will be stationed 24/7 at the Cactus Road/89th Avenue crossroads to direct traffic and ensure business access is maintained on the west side of 91st Avenue.
