On the afternoon of May 2nd, Oklahoma City was marked by another violent outlier in this year's troubling homicide trend. At approximately 12:36 p.m., Oklahoma City Police were dispatched to a carwash on NW 122nd St. following reports of a deceased individual. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Douglas Eugene Smitherman.
The location of the carwash, near the intersection of NW 122nd St. and N. Pennsylvania Ave., became an impromptu crime scene where investigators began piecing together the remnants of what would become Homicide #24 of 2025. Thus far, detectives are still soliciting the public aid in a bid to unravel the narrative behind Smitherman's death.
Smitherman, identified as a Black male born on March 6, 1977, was reportedly found with injuries consistent with homicide, as indicated in a bulletin released by Oklahoma City authorities.
