Portland residents who have ever stayed in a hotel, hostel, or any other type of transient lodging facility in the city may be interested to know about new fire and life safety regulations coming down the pipeline. The Portland Permitting & Development (PP&D) has been vested with new authority, courtesy of the City Council's decision in December of last year, to amend Title 24 Building Regulations, a move geared at shoring up the safety of these temporary abodes. According to an announcement by the Portland Permitting & Development, the looming permanent administrative rule, ENB 13.03 Transient Lodging Facilities, has been in effect on an interim basis since the start of the year.
While the rule is thus far temporary, the permanent version is slated to quickly follow suit, to officially take effect on June 23, 2025. But before it becomes set in stone, the public can weigh in. From now until Monday, June 9, PP&D is actively soliciting testimony from the community. Those interested in sharing their opinions or seeking amendments to the proposed rule can submit their comments via email at [email protected].
