PortMiami Set for Efficiency Boost as Mayor Levine Cava Announces Innovation Challenge Winners

Yesterday, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced the winners of a competition that could significantly improve the efficiency of cargo operations at PortMiami. The Public Innovation Challenge, spearheaded by the Miami-Dade Innovation Authority (MDIA) in collaboration with PortMiami, focuses on enhancing cargo visibility to streamline the flow of goods at one of the nation's busiest ports. According to a county release, the pilot projects are expected to integrate AI and advanced analytics to optimize cargo tracking and operations.

The challenge aimed at tackling issues such as terminal congestion and roadway safety, four companies have been funded with $100,000 each to pilot their projects. GenLogs, Conbo.ai, Argu Eye Ltd, and GridMatrix will test their technologies at PortMiami. Miami-Dade County Mayor Levine Cava articulated, “Introducing real-time cargo tracking at PortMiami through this innovative pilot is a strategic leap toward our vision of becoming the premier trade hub of the Americas. This challenge reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in smart, future-ready infrastructure—boosting efficiency, enhancing global competitiveness, creating local jobs, and delivering even better service to our partners and customers,” as reported in a statement obtained by the Miami-Dade County's official release.

MDIA's Public Innovation Challenge represents a bridge between the public sector and innovative startups, fostering technology development that directly benefits the community. Leigh-Ann A. Buchanan, President and CEO of MDIA, said, “This challenge exemplifies how the government can catalyze innovation by making it easier for emerging technologies to prove their impact in the real world. By partnering with PortMiami—one of our region’s most vital economic engines—we're not only improving operational efficiency, but also demonstrating a scalable model for how public infrastructure can drive private sector innovation. These pilot projects are the first step in unlocking smarter, safer, and more resilient trade across Miami-Dade and beyond,” as detailed by Miami-Dade County's statement. 

Hoodline reported that the event took place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the scheduled showcase of innovation offering a potential sneak peek into the logistics industry's future. The press had been instructed to register for the event starting at 9:00 a.m., with parking arranged at Garage J, which is located across from Cruise Terminal J.
