In a significant development from Arizona, Prescott Police Officer Brian Sutton has been indicted on a charge of manslaughter following an incident that occurred last June, as announced by Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. According to the official statement, the Grand Jury of Yavapai County delivered the indictment after a transfer of the case to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office was prompted by a conflict of interest.
The case against Sutton originated from a confrontation that transpired outside the victim, Daniel Leslie's home – Leslie was not armed when Sutton discharged his weapon as Leslie ran toward his residence the officer fired his service weapon, resulting in Leslie's injury and subsequent death at a hospital.
The responsibility for conducting the criminal investigation fell upon the Department of Public Safety, and the outcome of these proceedings has led to Sutton facing a manslaughter charge, though it's important to remember that this charge remains an accusation, and Sutton is presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
