Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a registered sex offender near an east El Paso high school, sparking concern in the local community. Jesus Emmanuel Guerra was apprehended for allegedly stalking a 15-year-old student in the vicinity of Pebble Hills High School, as reported by the El Paso Times. The Socorro Independent School District Police Department took the lead on the arrest.
The ongoing investigation, which involves collaboration between various law enforcement entities, including the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and the El Paso Police Department’s Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit, culminated in a photo lineup where the student identified Guerra as the alleged perpetrator, KFOX TV detailed. Following the identification, Guerra faced charges of stalking, a classification that falls under a third-degree felony.
Amid the unsettling events, statements made by local authorities have sought to reassure the public about student safety. “This case reflects our department’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of every student,” Socorro ISD Police Chief George Johnson said, as per KTSM. Johnson expressed his appreciation for the quick response of the police, the collaborative effort by school staff, and the bravery of the student who reported the incident.
