Early Monday morning, a Peoria apartment complex turned into an emergency scene after a stove top fire forced the evacuation of its residents. According to 25NewsNow, the initial alert came from a triggering smoke detector before 7:00 a.m. at Brandywine Crossing apartments on N. Brandywine. Firefighters, arriving to no visible hall smoke but confronted with the scent of burning, had to force their way into the apartment from where the smell emanated, finding a pot ablaze on the stove. The fire had already begun its assault on the surrounding cabinetry.
Situated on the 4000 block of North Brandywine Drive, this incident caused the displacement of nearly two dozen people and several pets, as the smoke infiltrated more than just the source apartment. Central Illinois Proud reported that the Peoria Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 6:50 a.m., quickly dealing with the fire, but the ensuing smoke necessitated a full evacuation of the building's residents, along with a few dogs who were standing by their owners.
The Peoria fire crews searched the apartment after extinguishing the fire, but found no one inside. The building was then ventilated to rid it of the consuming smoke. In what appeared to be a collective sigh of relief, residents returned to their homes after the intervention, which bore no further casualties except for one individual who was treated at the scene and promptly released, as per 25NewsNow.
