In a civic gesture that knits the community tighter, State Rep. Brad Barrett (R-Richmond) has played host to Greyson and Sierra Longnecker, a pair of studious siblings from Northeastern High School. The Longnecker duo recently had a day to rub elbows with lawmakers at the Indiana Statehouse, as participants in the Indiana House Page Program. In the shadow of legislation and deliberation, it's a day that brings the pages up-close with the motions and mechanics defining Hoosier state governance.

"Interacting with and assisted lawmakers and staff" was part of their day, as conveyed by a statement obtained by Indiana House Republicans. Being part of the Statehouse tour and sharing the House floor with Barrett to witness the legislative levers in action was also on their docket.

In a move that encourages the young guns to load their muskets with the powder of political understanding, Barrett praised the students' curiosity and engagement. "I was thrilled to welcome Greyson and Sierra back to the Statehouse this year," Barrett celebrated. "This program is a great way for students to get involved, ask questions and learn about state government up close. I'm proud to see young Hoosiers like them take full advantage of the opportunity," he continued, as documented by the page on Indiana House Republicans.

Every year, the program fishes for young Hoosiers, those between the ages of 13 and 18, and invites them to dive into the governmental pond. Next year's legislative session beholds more such opportunities, and Barrett's office can be reached at in.gov/56 or by calling 317-232-9695 for those interested or needing more information.
