The Round Rock Public Library will be abuzz with local talent on June 21st as it hosts a Local Author Meet and Greet event. According to an announcement provided by the City of Round Rock's official website, the gathering is set to feature nine local authors who will be on hand to showcase their works and engage with the community. Taking place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., the event will span both floors of the library, introducing attendees to a variety of authors who hail from diverse backgrounds and literary disciplines.
For families looking to entertain their young ones with a literary twist, the event promises to provide just that opportunity. Among the participants, children's authors will have the chance to read an excerpt from their books at the conclusion of the Family Storytime session. This interactive segment is designed not only to entertain but also to immerse and engulf the little ones in the art of storytelling. According to the event schedule, the reading is slated from 11 to 11:30 a.m. in the library's Second Floor Program Space.
Each author brings a unique flair to the mix, with showcases ranging from sound healing to adventurous children's books. Julie Afsahi and Jessica Cross, apart from promoting their collaborative work "Seasons of Sound," are known for their influential roles in the Central Texas wellness community through sound baths and wellness classes. Meanwhile, Douglas A. Burton, whose work highlights heroic women, presents his lauded novel, "The Heroine’s Labyrinth," which has garnered multiple accolades, including the BIBA Award and an Independent Press gold medal.
Michael Do's life experiences as a Political refugee and former Vietnamese Armed Forces soldier seamlessly translate into a prolific writing career with 20 books published in Vietnamese and three in English. The library's event details highlight Do’s acknowledgment by the Congress of Texas and his extensive contributions to the discourse on Vietnam. Another featured participant, Kevin Kelton, brings his Emmy-nominated TV writing expertise to the table, with credits including "Saturday Night Live" and "Night Court." Alongside his television work, Kelton is the author of three novels and a guide on the craft of writing for television.
Intertwining real-life inspiration with creative storytelling, Dani Lawrence draws from her grandchildren's escapades to delight her readers, while Tia Lulu infuses her tales with cultural homage and bilingual charm. Not to be left out, The Rhyme Time Teller aims to captivate with rhythmic stories, engaging characters known from fairy tales and nursery rhymes, asserting that "Children Deserve the Greatest of Stories." Lastly, Maureen St. Louis, who combines her role as an early childhood educator with her love for writing, promises to bring family-oriented fun through her book offerings. The Local Author Meet and Greet will also support The Friends of the Round Rock Library by donating 10% of book sales from the event.
