Amid rising concerns over police misconduct, three officers from the Roy Police Department now find themselves under the scrutiny of the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, following allegations of sexual assault that reportedly occurred in the line of duty. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the incident in question unfolded during a response to a medical emergency at Snowbird ski resort on May 14. Detective Arlan Bennett shared that deputies from Salt Lake County, who had also responded to the emergency alongside the questioned officers, are conducting the investigation.
One officer among the accused has since been reinstated, as they were found uninvolved in the incident. Addressing the unwanted scrutiny, Sgt. Josh Taylor of the Roy Police told KUTV, "If there was any violation of policy or statute, the officers will be held accountable." He emphasized that the department takes such allegations seriously, which has prompted both a criminal probe and an internal investigation to ensure due diligence. However, police withhold further details about the officers or the specifics of the report.
The number of officers placed on leave has since been updated to four, expanding the scope of the investigation beyond initial reports. This development, confirmed by representatives of the Roy Police and the Sheriff’s Office, underscores the complexity and gravity of the situation.
