The Salt Lake City Police Department is making waves after its Bike Squad managed to intercept and seize a large haul of methamphetamine, tipping the scales at over six pounds. The bust also netted more than $6,200 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales. This development was shared in a news release from the SLCPD, chronicling a significant stride in their ongoing war against narcotics.
According to SLCPD, the series of events that led to the seizure began on a Saturday morning when bike officers received a tip about potential drug activity along 2100 South Redwood Road. Officers observed what they believed, based on their training, to be a drug deal in progress, which allowed them to quickly react and detain the suspected buyer. Aided by a K-9 unit from the Cottonwood Heights Police Department, officers discovered approximately 2.2 pounds of meth in the vehicle.
The investigation continued to unravel the threads of this drug operation, leading law enforcement to a nearby hotel linked to the suspect. The SLCPD's effort, now bolstered by its Central Bike Squad, Special Investigations Unit, and Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, culminated in a court-sanctioned search that unearthed additional methamphetamine, bringing the total found to about 6.5 pounds, and another cache of cash.
SLCPD Chief Brian Redd did not hold back his praise for the operation, stating, "This case is a great example of what our officers can achieve when they build strong partnerships and have strong interagency cooperation," as per SLCPD. Redd emphasized the department's resolve, saying, "We will never stop going after drug traffickers in our city. We will use the full weight of the criminal justice system to hold them accountable."
