Tragedy struck early this morning on the Far South Side of San Antonio when a 16-year-old girl, engaging in the simple joy of skateboarding, was fatally hit by a car. According to FOX San Antonio, the accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. near East Villaret Boulevard and Moursund Boulevard as the teenager was riding on an electric skateboard.
Managing to roll into the street while sitting "Indian style" on her board, she was struck by a car with the driver later telling investigators he did not see her due to her low position on the skateboard, as per FOX San Antonio. Adding to the tragic circumstances, KSAT reported that direct sunlight could have played a role, possibly hampering the driver's vision as the teenager attempted the fatal crossing.
Emergency responders swiftly took the girl to a nearby hospital in a critical state; however, the victim's fight for life ended shortly after arrival with the confirmed pronouncement of her death occurring around 8:30 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle, who remained at the scene, has been described as cooperative with investigators. The San Antonio Police Department has not filed charges against him at this time and continues to investigate the circumstances leading to the collision.
