A troubling assault in San Francisco's Outer Sunset neighborhood has the community on high alert after a woman was attacked outside her home last Thursday. According to ABC7 News, a man was captured on camera aggressively approaching the woman from across the street and then striking her with what appeared to be a weapon as she was discarding her trash. The man then walked away from the scene.
The woman in her 60s was surprised when she was hit twice with a wooden stick. The surveillance video shows the assailant raising the stick above his head before hitting the woman on the back of her head and upper back, when she turned to face him, he struck her face as well and after assessing her injuries she stumbled back towards her home where her family was unaware of the incident until she informed them. The family, longtime residents of the neighborhood, are left shocked and distraught over the violent encounter. The woman's son-in-law told the San Francisco Chronicle, "She's a little bit scared and spooked right now."
Local police have confirmed the attack and are actively investigating the situation after responding to the aggravated assault report at around 9 AM. No arrests have been made, and details about the weapon remain unclear. The woman, fortunately, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was evaluated at a hospital to rule out a concussion or fractures.
