San Francisco is set to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month with its 4th annual "Our Heritage 5K," a community-focused event designed to honor the contributions of the AAPI community. Scheduled for Saturday, this free, family-friendly 5K, organized by the nonprofit Asians Are Strong, will guide participants through the city’s vibrant neighborhoods with historical landmarks.

The 5K will commence at Japantown's Origami Fountain at 10 AM and conclude in Chinatown's Portsmouth Square. In the spirit of inclusivity, the event encourages running and walking, offering people of all ages and fitness levels a chance to engage with the city’s historic locales. Onlookers can expect cheer stations, photo opportunities, and sweet treats as part of the festivities, KRON4 reports.

Not just a run, but a learning journey as well, participants will chart a path through over 16 significant AAPI landmarks, including the Nichi Bei Kai Cultural Center, Korean Center, Olive St. Mural, and the Chinese Historical Society of America. San Francisco actor Rich Ting, this year's honorary starter, will join the race, emphasizing the importance of community and representation. While the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has not announced road closures, the influx of participants typically calls for adequate planning to mitigate possible disruptions.

The 5K will dovetail with the Our Wellness Festival. Here, after cultivating connections during the race, attendees are encouraged to engage further with the community during a carnival hosted in partnership with @rams_sf. According to a post by Asians Are Strong on Instagram, the festival will feature family-friendly activities, carnival-style games, music, and dance, alongside wellness resources to celebrate mental health and joy. Crucial to note that registration is required for all who wish to participate in the 5K, with the link on Asians Are Strong's Instagram bio.
