
Two men have been apprehended in connection with a robbery that took place in mid-April at Ellis Elementary School in Sunnyvale. The suspects identified as Giovanni Velez of San Jose and Enrique Guerrero of Santa Clara allegedly arranged to meet with a seller advertising a watch, only to turn the transaction into an armed robbery, reportedly. The victim was unharmed but deprived of the watch. The arrest culminated in a joint effort between the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the San Jose Police Department, per the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
An extensive investigation allowed officers to zero in on the suspects quickly. This morning, with the assistance of the Sunnyvale DPS SWAT team and the San Jose Police Department's Mobile Emergency Response Group (MERG), simultaneous operations were conducted, resulting in the safe capture of both Velez and Guerrero. The purloined watch was also retrieved during the operation. According to the account shared by the Sunnyvale DPS, neither suspect resisted arrest, showcasing effective coordination between local law enforcement agencies.
Following the arrests, both Velez and Guerrero have been booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of robbery.
