The San José Police Department made a key arrest connected to a burglary and sexual assault case in the heart of San José. An adult female survivor was assailed in her residence last Thursday, as reported by the SJPD news release. The suspect, Cong Tran, 40, is now facing serious charges after being identified and apprehended by the police.
The events unfolded when an intruder, later identified as Cong Tran, entered the survivor's home through an unlocked door and sexually assaulted her. The survivor was asleep in her bedroom when she was attacked. The perpetrator attempted to stifle her screams by covering her mouth, leaving the scene before authorities could arrive. The heinous act triggered an immediate response from SJPD's Sexual Assault Investigations Unit Detectives, who launched an in-depth investigation into the assault.
In a strategic twist of fate, Patrol Officers who had an earlier consensual encounter with Tran the previous night, connected his description to the suspect's and acted swiftly. Their familiarity with the suspect would be crucial to the case's development.
Almost a week after a crime that sent ripples throughout the community, Tran was located by patrol Officers on proactive duty. They recognized and detained him at around 8:30 PM on the streets of San José. According to the SJPD release, the suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges pertinent to burglary and sexual assault.
