The San José Police Department is currently investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a man and left a woman injured. the incident occurred yesterday. A blue Nissan Sentra is said to have been driving westbound on Virginia Street, near Almaden Avenue, when it struck two pedestrians: one an adult male utilizing a wheelchair, the other an adult female companion, according to the San José Police Department.
The male victim was subsequently propelled into a parked vehicle due to the impact and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. This incident marked not only the 11th traffic-related fatality in San José but also the 6th pedestrian to have lost their life to vehicular incidents this year. The female involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision. The San José Police Department informed the public that the driver of the Nissan fled the scene immediately after the accident but was later apprehended by patrol officers.
The driver now faces charges including vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, further to their involvement in the hit-and-run.
