Rescue operations turned to recovery last night after the Everett Fire Department deemed the chances of survival for the missing persons unlikely and, the lone survivor of this maritime tragedy who managed to emerge unharmed was out shrimping before the boat started taking on water, a fact which police are still thoroughly investigating as the exact cause of the incident remains undetermined as informed by a statement obtained by KIRO7.
It's been confirmed by the Everett Police Department that the group was shrimping near Mukilteo when their boat began taking on water, leading to the current situation, "He was out shrimping, and the boat started taking on water, but exactly what caused this to happen, I can’t speak to that. We’re still investigating," an Everett police spokesperson told KOMONews.
The U.S. Coast Guard is also involved in the ongoing investigation, highlighting the critical nature of safety gear in such emergencies, “With this case, we’re looking at did they had life jackets on or dry suits, things like that are really going to improve your chances of survival," Coast Guard Spokesperson Steve Strohmaier said, according to a statement released by KOMONews.
