The New Orleans & CBD Historic District Landmarks Commissions are set to make key appointments to their Architectural Review Committees (ARC) at their upcoming annual meeting this July. According to a recent announcement, these committees will be taking on new members who are deeply rooted in the industry, tasked with preserving the rich tapestry of the city's architectural heritage.
With the deadline fast approaching on June 27, 2024, the commissions are calling for professionals to step forward into service. Eager to possibly reappoint existing ARC members and to welcome fresh perspectives, each ARC is looking to comprise four licensed volunteer architects, complemented by one emerging professional in the field of architecture design. Prospective architects must not only be versed in design but also harbor a knowledge of historic preservation and the unique New Orleans vernacular. According to the official announcement, the commitment for volunteers varies between three to seven hours per month, depending upon their specific committee's workload.
Applications are to be thoroughly reviewed by staff for adherence to these stringent requirements, with the Executive Director set to recommend candidates for appointment. In an effort to maintain transparency, the commissions will review the Executive Director’s recommendations and resumes in an open public meeting.
