In an announcement that may help curb the number of traffic mishaps involving young drivers, the Sevierville Police Department is offering a free Collision Avoidance Training (CAT) session on May 25. Scheduled to take place between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., the course is set to unfold at the Sevierville Police Department and the Sevierville Convention Center, according to a recent Facebook post.
The program targets drivers between 16 and 20 years old, allowing them to hone their driving skills under the guidance of SPD officers; to enroll in the class, participants must possess a valid driver's license, their own vehicle, and current insurance, to register for this valuable training interested parties should contact Sergeant Caleb Brien at [email protected] or 865-868-1913 – but act fast because space is limited. This program not only teaches important driving skills but also promises a personal learning experience, as students use their own vehicles during practical exercises designed to push both their cars' and their own limits.
Sevierville police chief Joseph Manning emphasized the program's significance in light of the area's high volume of traffic and the frequency of vehicular collisions, he said in the Facebook post, "The CAT program will improve the safety of our young drivers, I urge all parents to seriously consider this training." Manning's call to parents underlines the department's commitment to proactive measures in traffic safety education—measures that could prove pivotal in safeguarding the community's budding motorists.
