The Slidell Police Department has announced their participation in the national "Click It or Ticket" campaign, in efforts to increase seat belt compliance amongst drivers and passengers. In a recent social media post, the department detailed that, thanks to funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, there will be heightened patrols from now until June 1st to enforce seat belt laws rigorously.
This initiative underscores the ease and effectiveness of buckling up to safeguard individuals and their loved ones while on the road. According to the Slidell Police Department's post, "Wearing your seat belt is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your loved ones." As the Memorial Day weekend approaches, which typically sees an increase in travel and festivities, law enforcement's presence aims to preemptively mitigate preventable injuries and fatalities due to non-compliance with seat belt laws.
In light of the upcoming holiday weekend, the Slidell Police Department encourages residents and visitors to plan ahead and not to drink and drive. In addition to seat belt enforcement, officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers. As stated in their announcement, "If you’re celebrating this Memorial Day weekend, plan ahead — don’t drink and drive."
