Tragedy struck in El Paso County when a single-vehicle accident claimed the life of a local man. In the early hours of Saturday, 53-year-old Bonifacio Chavez from Socorro, Texas, lost control of his white pickup truck on a quiet stretch of road. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to the scene of the rollover crash situated at Perlite Drive and South Ascencion Street at around 1:29 a.m.
The Sheriff's Office dispatched their Special Traffic Investigations Unit to the scene to piece together the circumstances that led to the fatal event. Initial assessments made by investigators discern that the combination of impairment, the truck's speed, and Chavez's failure to wear a seatbelt were significant factors in the incident. Chavez, after being transported to a local hospital for urgent care, was later pronounced dead, according to El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte in a social media post.
The sheriff's brief went on to confirm that the victim's next of kin have been informed of the tragedy, an action that means little in the wake of such unexpected loss, yet remains a necessary protocol. The sheriff's office has not released further details about the crash but has indicated that its investigation will continue to probe the specifics of what unfolded in those critical moments before the crash occurred.
