In a coordinated effort yesterday, Springfield Police, helmed by Captain Joseph Dunn and Lieutenant Jaime Bruno, managed to arrest a 21-year-old male and confiscate a loaded firearm. The suspect, identified as Dequan Wood of Springfield, has been charged with multiple offenses including carrying and possession of a loaded firearm without a license, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and intent to distribute a Class D drug, as reported by the Springfield Police Department.

The arrest occurred after FIU Detectives investigated a tip about a car crash on Allen Street where an individual was reportedly armed and surveillance of the suspected vehicle began around 12:25 p.m., a male was seen with his hand suspiciously inside his hooded sweatshirt which detail matched with the description provided earlier, he drove off and detectives followed. The Springfield Police C3 Metro Unit stepped in to assist, halting the subject in a parking lot where he was apprehended while outside his car and the loaded gun was recovered from his sweatshirt. Alongside the firearm, a substantive illegal amount of marijuana over eight ounces was also found, packaged in a child's backpack inside Wood's vehicle.

Wood's apprehension is a part of the Springfield Police Department's continued efforts to curb gun violence and the illicit drug trade in the city. Captain Dunn's FIU and Lt. Bruno's directive has shown a proactive approach to acting on intelligence to take potentially dangerous individuals off the streets, emphasizing the department's commitment to community safety.
