Commuters in St. Joseph are facing detours as the southbound off ramp from Interstate 229 to Atchison and 6th streets is closed for the time being. The disruption is due to a water main break that prompted Missouri American Water and the Missouri Department of Transportation to shut down the ramp yesterday morning.
The closure may put a wrinkle in the daily route for some, but access to U.S. Route 59 from the southbound I-229 ramp remains open, offering a semblance of relief to motorists navigating the area. In a bid to mend the damaged infrastructure, Missouri American Water is aiming to complete repairs and have the roadway ready for travel by tomorrow evening, as they indicated on MoDOT's website.

"MoDOT asks drivers to work with us by always buckling up, keeping your phone down, slowing down and moving over in work zones," as stated on their official site.
