The wheels of democracy continue to turn in North Carolina, as State Auditor Dave Boliek initiates the next cycle of the State Board of Elections. According to a report released yesterday on the official website of the North Carolina State Auditor, Boliek has appointed three individuals—nominated by the North Carolina Republican Party—to serve as new members of the board, effective immediately.
The appointees bring a diverse array of experience to the table. Francis X. De Luca, a retied U.S. Marine Corps Colonel and former president of the Civitas Institute, is no stranger to public service, having previously served on the State Ethics Commission. Robert Anthony Rucho's political chops were honed during a 17-year stint in the North Carolina Senate, where he has to be recognized for his work on tax reform and electoral policy. Completing the trio is Stacy Clyde Eggers IV, a lawyer and managing partner of the Eggers Law Firm who also already serves on the State Board of Elections.
Boliek, in a statement published on the State Auditor's website, stressed the critical nature of the Board's responsibilities. "Managing our elections is no small task. It takes time, dedication, and professionalism," he said. "We need full confidence in our elections, and I'd like to thank these individuals for their willingness to serve." These comments reflect the high expectations placed on the Board to uphold the integrity and effectiveness of electoral processes in North Carolina.
While these appointments have been confirmed, the Board’s composition is not yet complete. Boliek has indicated he is prepared to appoint the remaining members once the North Carolina Democratic Party submits its list of nominees.
